What Can You Expect?

You can expect PROMPT service! We have all been put through the dreaded hour long wait in a doctor’s reception area with year old magazines. In our clinic, you won’t have to bring a 500 page book that you will have time to read through by the end of your visit. When we make an appointment – we keep it! From beginning to end, your first visit with us will not take any longer than an hour.

The first visit is all ABOUT you!

Our priority is your health and wellness. The doctor is going to sit down with you and actually listen to your concerns. We want to know everything you can tell us about your condition. We will then do a complete exam to learn as much as possible about your condition. Why? Because we want you to be given the personal care and expertise you deserve to achieve maximum health. This will not be a cookie cutter diagnosis or treatment. We will study your health history and tests and determine what will be best for you.

The doctor will then meet with you and go over the findings of your examination. We will determine what kind of care you need and if chiropractic is what you need. If you need something other than what we provide – we will tell you and recommend what you should do. If we can help you – we will tell you and clearly communicate what kind of care you need to achieve your desired health and wellness. By the end of this report you will enjoy the confidence that comes from knowing what is causing your health concerns and what it will take to get to the solution. No treatments will begin until you understand what is being recommended and agree with this report of findings. You can expect service not pressure.

Below are some treatments that we offer our patients at our office.

Decompression Therapy

Spinal Decompression Therapy involves stretching the spine, using a traction table or similar motorized device, with the goal of relieving back pain and/or leg pain.

This procedure is called nonsurgical decompression therapy (as opposed to surgical spinal decompression, such as laminectomy and microdiscectomy).
Spinal decompression devices use the same basic principle of spinal traction that has been offered by chiropractors, osteopaths, and other appropriately trained health professionals for many years.

Both traction and decompression therapy are applied with the goals of relieving pain and promoting an optimal healing environment for bulging, degenerating, or herniated discs.

Joint Chiropractic offers both low back and neck decompression therapy.

DOT Physicals

National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (National Registry) is a new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) program. All commercial drivers whose current medical certificate expires on or after May 21, 2014, at expiration of that certificate must be examined by a medical professional listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. Only medical examiners that have completed training and successfully passed a test on FMCSA’s physical qualification standards will be listed on the National Registry. The National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners lists medical examiners (MEs) who have been trained, tested and certified to perform medical examinations for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers in interstate commerce. These MEs fully understand the medical standards in the FMCSA Regulations, related guidance and how they relate to the medical demands of operating a commercial motor vehicle.

The goal of the National Registry is to promote and preserve the highest level of professional standards, training and care among medical examiners. Therefore, the National Registry requires that medical examiners performing CMV driver examinations be trained and certified.

Dr. Sarah Joint is a certified medical examiner by the state of Pennsylvania. Please call to schedule your exam today 814-866-3366

Gua Sha

Gua sha is a healing technique of traditional East Asian medicine. Sometimes called ‘coining, spooning or scraping’, Gua sha is defined as instrument-assisted unidirectional press-stroking of a lubricated area of the body surface to intentionally create transitory therapeutic petechiae called ‘sha’ representing extravasation of blood in the subcutis.

Modern research shows Gua sha produces an anti-inflammatory and immune protective effect that persists for days following a single Gua sha treatment. This accounts for its effect on pain, stiffness, fever, chill, cough, wheeze, nausea and vomiting etc., and why Gua sha is effective in acute and chronic internal organ disorders including liver inflammation in hepatitis.

The technique is useful in any licensed therapeutic practice and of particular interest to acupuncturists, massage therapists, physical therapists, physicians and nurses who work directly with patients.

Kinesio and Rock Tape

The Kinesio Taping Method is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while allowing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. It is used to successfully treat a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and medical conditions. Both Kinesio® Tex Tape and the training protocol have shown results that would have been unheard of using older methods and materials.
In the mid-1970s, Dr. Kenzo Kase was already a well-known practitioner licensed in chiropractic and acupuncture in the US and Japan. He developed the tape, which has a texture and elasticity very close to living human skin, in response to limitations he encountered working with rigid sports taping methods on his own patients.

He had become familiar with a cryotherapy treatment for arthritis that utilized tape to adjust joint distortion. In Western medicine the presumption had been that once a joint is in a certain shape that cannot be changed. He was intrigued by the possibilities that this treatment could remediate the distortion.

To develop such a modality, he ordered supplies of the different athletic tapes that were available at that time. None of them gave him the results he was looking for. By trial and error, he realized that the source of the complaint was actually in the muscle, not in the joint or in the bone. To stabilize the joint he saw that it was more effective to tape around the muscle to achieve joint correction. The tapes that he was able to obtain were rigid, designed to immobilize the joint.

In cases of injury or overuse, the muscle loses its elasticity. Dr. Kase needed to develop a tape that would have the same elasticity as healthy human muscle. He knew from his practice that the tape would also need to stay on the skin where it was applied. He spent two years doing a lot of research relating to elasticity, adhesives and breathability.

Finally, he came up with a tape that possessed the proper degree of elasticity, and that lifts the skin microscopically. Kinesio® Tex Tape was invented. Dr. Kase coined the unique name “Kinesio” in reference to the body movement of kinesiology and kinesthesis.

Kinesio® Tex Tape is used to

  • Re-educate the neuromuscular system
  • Reduce pain
  • Optimize performance
  • Prevent injury
  • Promote improved circulation and healing

Dr. Kase continues to work closely with Kinesio® distributors throughout the world as well as with Kinesio Taping® Association International (KTAI) and its members. Kinesio® USA and KTAI continue to maintain Dr. Kase’s high standards of care and to track new and increasingly effective uses for the taping method.

Rock Tape

Fascial Movement Taping (FMT)
FMT introduces the concept of movement therapy and enhancement via functional kinesiology taping methods. Clinical applications for the purposes of rehabilitation are reviewed and then expanded upon in order to apply tape in a manner that improves movement and function. FMT is designed for healthcare professionals, therapists and trainers who want to further their understanding of human movement.

Performance Movement Techniques (PMT)
PMT introduces the concept of movement therapy and performance enhancement to create simple and effective home care mobility and stability programs with the use of balls, bands, rollers and kinesiology tape. PMT is designed for healthcare and fitness professionals who want to further their understanding of human movement.
